I had a commission to build three red snappers after my first one was made; the grain and lines were of great interest to the buyer:  white cedar, hematite and abalone;  I still have this one; he took two others and a ling cod.

Blue footed booby pun

A friend gave me a nicely shaped walnut burl for the breast of this bird; head is pine and feet are alder; eye is abalone; 9"high and wide, 13"long.  Notice booby feet have the back toe coming forward to act as a 4th front toe.

White cedar, eyes of hematite and abalone; 17"long, 9"high, 2 1/2" depth; My friend had some white cedar he didn't want and it makes superb, striped fish for the wall.

It's just a matter of removing excess in the undersides for a while; taking out the nostrils doesn't take much weight.  Then, I can finally get to carving of the head, the details; that's still
